The New York Daily News reports on Paul Ryan's participation in a GOP conspiracy to foreswear bipartisanship efforts and block President Obama in pulling the nation from a brutal recession. The group has been dedicated to fighting Obama at every term in order to achieve political gain at the expense of the nation's recovery.
What cost to the nation has Ryan's political ambition been willing to bear in blocking Obama's economic agenda that would otherwise have pulled the nation from recession years ago?
The Republican effort to oust Obama began on the frigid night of Jan. 20, 2009, when more than 15 top Republicans — including then-House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.), future Romney running mate Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and ex-House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) — met in a Washington steakhouse.
Obama had been sworn in just hours earlier and the country was in the midst of a brutal recession, but there would be no effort at bipartisanship, the leaders vowed.
They would fight Obama at every turn, dedicating themselves to making him a one-term President.
“You will remember this day,” Gingrich said, according to reports of the clandestine meeting. “You will remember this as the day the seeds of 2012 were sown.”
