Under fire for stating that victims of "legitimate rape" rarely get pregnant, Rep. Todd Akin appeared with Romney running mate Paul Ryan at the press conference where Ryan rolled out his controversial 2012 budget plan.
Akin and Ryan had previously cosponsored the 2011 "No Taxpayer Funding for Abortions Act" in an effort to redefine rape as "forcible rape" and narrow the scope of what is considered rape in cases of abortion.
The two conservative Republicans also cosponsored the "Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act" in 2004, in order to require that abortion providers "make a specified statement to the pregnant woman that Congress has determined that there is substantial evidence that the process will cause the unborn child pain."
With growing outrage over Akin's "legitimate rape" statements, GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney may be forced to distance himself from his running mate's views on women's health.
